What's more likely to happen first, a New England Patriot Loss or a Notre Dame Win?

The football world is in the process of witnessing perhaps the most dominating NFL team ever (This Year's New England Patriots) right along with the most dissapointing college team in recent memory (This Year's Notre Dame Fighting Irish). The Pats are 2-0, crushing their first two opponents like they are crushing a paper cup. Notre Dame on the flip side is an abismal 0-3, yet to see an offensive TD. To make things worse, they just got beat like a drum last week 38-0 by a Michigan team who was 0-2 at the time and also was falling apart and getting spat upon by home fans. But much like a gift from god, the Wolverines got Notre Dame, a happless bunch of squrimish invalid freshman who can't score a TD or stop any offense in the land. The Wolverine's head Coach Llyod Carr had been criticized the first two weeks of the season after Division I AA team Appalachian State had shocked Carr's then #5 ranked Michigan squad followed by an equally damaging loss to the Oregon Ducks, who dress themselves in different uniforms like every game is a prom or a date. Anyways, enough of Llyod Carr's Wolverines, they are "off the snag" as my high school football coaches used to say to us during weeks where our team was following 55-3 butt whooping losses to teams predominantly occupied by rapant steroid injecting teenagers whose mouths were dripping foam and slobber all over the field.

But Notre Dame is not "off the snag" and quite frankly may never get off the snag until they play happless 1-2 Navy who despite all of their lack of recent football success may have the upper hand in that upcoming game. Notre Dame's coach Charlie Weiss is sweating bullets like a pig, and quite frankly carries himself on the field like William Howard Taft or Grover Cleveland injected with caffiene. He's on the verge of losing his job, and probably should the way this team has been playing. The Irish suck right now, and there is no excuse for it. To make things worse, their starting QB in training camp left this storied football program for Northern Illionois, a program not nearly as revered as Notre Dame. Everybody in the sporting community is comparing Charlie Weiss to a rookie head coach, one who lacks wisdom, good judgement, and common sense. Yet is Chubby Charlie Weiss really to blame? He took his team to a Sugar Bowl last year (and got crushed), and he has put his team on the map over the last two seasons.

But much like the real world, you aren't nearly as prasied for positive deeds as you are for negative actions. That is why Charlie Weiss will proably get the boot, and escape up to New York to coach a New York Giant team who currently is dealing with a snippy little coach of their own named Tom Coughlin. Tom Coughlin treats his players like he's running a prison or a juvenile detention center. Life as a NY Giant sucks right now all because their coach is a hissing serpent breathing fire and spitting venom. But is this the only reason the Giants suck right now? Aren't the players to take part of the blame? The answer is yes.

But at least they have the excuse of a having a bitchy coach, the Fighting Irish can't even pull that rabbit out of the hat. Their only excuse is youth, lack of effort, and focus, which are only partly to blame the coach for. The only area where Charlie Weiss could be criticized for is lack of ability to find good offensive production, which is odd since he is so heavily offensive minded. But the fact that this team can't offensively score Touchdowns nor stop them from the opposition leads many to think this team is doomed to some dark 0-8 start which by that time could easily wind up being an 0-12 season. Will they ever get a win, and if so who against. Most people's bets are on Navy, and some are saying Michigan State this weekend, who are currently sitting pretty at 3-0. I find the odds of an Irish victory to be low against Michigan State, but if you're looking at most winnable games out there, Michigan State is way more winnable than USC, Boston College, or Purdue. But in addition to lousy Navy, they get Stanford and Duke who both suck and need new football players on their entire rosters. So, we're not looking at any winnable games until the 9th or 10th game of the season.

On oppostie side of success in the NFL lies a Patriot team brimming with confidence, and eyeballing a Super Bowl Trophy like it's right in front of them. They clearly have the NFL's best team right now, and if you think I'm joking, look at the way they are rolling throug teams right now. it's ridculous. Patriot QB Tom Brady is connecting with WR Randy Moss like he's connecting online to chat on myspace; all day. These two are such a scary WR/QB combo that most defenses might as well throw in the towl and call it a day because there is no way they can possibly stop this madness. They are equally an angry team (which sucks for opponents) beacuse their head coach Bill Belicheck hsa been allegly video taping teams to read denfensive hand gestures, sign language, and other forms of commuication for the hearing impared. The Patriots are more than just accused of being deaf, they are accused of being cheaters, which is really pissing off not only the Patriots but also the entire Patriot fan base as well. Patriot LB Tedi Bruschi said that last week's win over the chargers was called the biggest win and certainly most satisfying win of his NFL career and career as a Partriot which are pretty bold words, since he has won 3 Super Bowls on the Patriots.

So, it is clear that the Pats have their coaches back, and they have personall/moral reasons to win besides better paychecks, hotter cheerleaders for the kicker and co. to sleep with, and just general success as a team. They have a chip on their shoulder in a sense and they want to prove that they win games because they are really good and not really sneaky. However, this doesn't all mean other teams are just lolly gagging around smelling daises, and drinking champaigne from venitian goblets. Other teams are pissed as well. The Colts are pissed about lack of respect as an overall team, the Ravens are just always angry, the Chargers have failed to reach Super Bowl expectations, and The Bears have the rap of being so bad offensivley that they couldn't even score a TD if they were spotted 50 yards. But all in all the team most angry right now is the Patriots, and it will remain that so all year.

So, when will they drop a game? Week 10 or a 11 ? Or later like in week 13 @ Baltimore? The answer is I don't know but all I'm saying is realisticly a Notre Dame win isn't going to come after a Patriot loss. The Pats will cruise through week 12 and start 12-0 before the Ravens or Steelers beat them. That wil be around Dec 3 or 9th which means the Notre Dame season is going to be over by that time. Notre Dame does have winnable games, Navy, Duke, and Stanford. One of those games will be won by the Irish, and the Patriots will still be undefeated at that time. That alll being said, both teams are very angry right now for different reasons, and if enough anger rages inside the Irish that they feel like ramming their heads into brick walls, then maybe the Irish do have a chance. But All I know for sure is that a Patriot loss won't be seen until December.
