NBA Draft 2007: Oden or Durant
Allright, so the NBA Draft is over. The Hype is all over, everybody knows that Greg Oden is a Trailblazer and that Kevin Durant is a Supersonic. But who has got the better deal? Do they have the best deal? Well, I will break that down. First of all, other notable draft selections was Al Horford from Florida and Acie Law IV going to the Atlanta Hawks, Corey Brewer (also a gator) going to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Joakim Noah from Florida went to the Bulls, Taurean Green also from Florida went to the Portland Trailblazers. Yi Jianlian from China went to the Bucks, and Mike Conley Jr. from Ohio State landed in Memphis.
But there were three main stories circulating in this draft, and two of them involved guys who were to be drafted, the third involved and NBA great by the name of Kevin "To Bad Minnesota Ain't Heaven" Garnett, who has plowed his ass off for over 10 years for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Kevin Garnett's future has been discussed on ESPN has been discussed like what crime is Paris Hilton going to commit next on VH1 or whatever. KG has been News! Nobody knows where this boy is going to end up. Will he stay in Minnesota, does Kobe want him in L.A.? Is Phoenix his destination? Does he want to try to compete in the East because the Eastern Conference is crappy and full of shit? Where will he land up? It has been a big question, and for crying out loud, there has been all sorts of loopy trading possiblities brought up. I mean I'm talking strange deals, involving sending KG to Phoenix, Atlanta's 3rd and 11th picks to Minnesota, and Amare Stoudemire to Atlanta. It is like the New York Stock Exchange these trade rumors are, they are just like the NYSE, and you know what? They never seem to follow through. Listen, here is what I think should happen, the Phoenix Suns should deal Amare Stoudemire to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Kevin Garnett.
The Suns are all about winning right now, and the Timberwolves are praying for a future. If you give Minnesota Amare Stoudemire, Minnesota has a future, you give Phoenix Kevin Garnett, hey maybe Phoenix gets and NBA title next year. But I tell you what sports fans, the Phoenix Suns don't need KG, they need a bench. That's all I'm saying.
I ain't lying, that's the reality, but I am writing about draft night, and so let me bring up the next big story on Draft Night. Yi Jianlian, this tall skinny ass Chinese dude who is supposed to be the other half to Yao Ming, whatever the hell that means. He is supposed to have a more outside game, less inside presence, but better offensive tools, and potential. He is said to have better range, and better mobility, which better be the case since this guy is 6 inches shorter than Yao Ming. Now, on draft night everybody was saying, "Where will Yi Jianlian land? Milwaukee, Boston, Minnesota, where will this boy land?" Then there were questions about Yi Jianlian not willing to play in a place where he can't get a good fan base. Somehow Houston has worked out for Yao Ming though, so you know why should Yi worry? NBA is all over China now thanks to Yao Ming and some shitty ass player name Wang ZhiZhu or whatever his last name is . So Yi really shouldn't worry, but the Bucks will have to deal with Yi and his people in order to get things straigtened out, since they really like Yi and what he can bring.
Now the big story of that night was Greg Oden and Kevin Durant, two young men with bright futures and great talent. The big question was who should Portland (the ones who posessed the coveted #1 pick) select as their player to build around for hopefully the next 10+ years. Portland went with Greg Oden, the bigger, taller, Paul Bunyan looking guy from Ohio who is said to be the next Patrick Ewing. Seattle was left to pick Kevin Durant, which was also a very nice pick. Oden comes to a better situation with Brandon Roy at point guard and Taurean Green coming in as a rookie as well from Florida. Portland is ready to make an impact in the NBA this upcoming year, and hopes to add depth to an already vicious Western Conference. Durant does not come into as good a situation, with Ray Allen leaving Seattle for Boston, and with Rashard Lewis leaving Seattle for "The Magic Kingdom" to join Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic. So, it 's going to be just Kevin Durant up there in Seattle right now, and I smell either another KG situation where 10 years later Seattle has done shit for him and he's screaming bloodcurdling cries of horror and terror to get out so that he can see some Sun and play on a good team, or a scenereo like Shawn "The Rain Man" Kemp where with a good point guard he can help a Seattle team become a real force in the west that is capable of kicking Carmello Anthony's Ass any day.
Overall, both young players have a bright future ahead of them, and it will be interesting to see what happens. Talk 2 u later. Peace!
